Scrub your list against the Tennessee Do Not Call Register before you dial. As of July 2024, the rules cover text messages too, each one its own violation.
Tennessee's Do Not Call rules carry fines on the order of $500 to $1,000 per violation, with higher penalties for willful or repeated conduct. As of July 1, 2024, the law also covers text message solicitations, and each unsolicited or improperly sent text counts as its own violation.
Tennessee maintains its own Do Not Call Register, separate from the National DNC Registry and enforced by the state Attorney General.
A 2024 amendment extended the rules to cover text message solicitations alongside calls. The same consent, Do Not Call, and disclosure duties apply to texts, and each improperly sent text is treated as a separate violation. Initial texts must identify the sender, state the nature of the solicitation, and offer an easy opt-out.
Tennessee requires telemarketer registration only when you use an autodialing system to call residents. Even so, the per-violation fines and the text-message exposure make a clean scrub important.
